Most people instinctively scan the picture quickly and arrive at an answer within seconds. Some confidently count 12, while others insist there are 13.
Before settling on your answer, try counting again.
Instead of looking at the entire image at once, divide it mentally into sections. Start at the top left and move systematically across each row. Then check whether any tomatoes overlap, appear partially hidden, or blend into surrounding objects.
That second inspection can completely change your answer.
Why Our Eyes Can Miss Obvious Details
Human vision does not operate like a camera recording every detail with equal precision.
The brain constantly interprets visual information, identifies patterns, and decides which elements deserve attention. This process allows us to understand complicated environments quickly, but it also means small details can sometimes escape notice.
When several similar objects appear together, the brain may perceive them as a group instead of carefully analyzing every individual item.
